La Perle Resort

Located on Koh Samui’s north coast, we stayed in one of two beachfront villas with a private pool. We were picked up at our arrival pier by taxi arranged by the hotel, we rented a vehicle for our time which was also arranged by the hotel staff, as was our onward travel upon leaving so can’t fault their helpfulness. Location was great too - quiet enough to feel relaxed by the beach and our pool but also close enough to the busy hustle and bustle of central Koh Samui. Reception is open from 8am-9pm so any queries outwith those hours has to be done via WhatsApp and the kitchen/bar closes at 4pm which was disappointingly early because there aren’t many eating places nearby so without a vehicle we would have struggled for food and had to order via Grab. The villa itself was good, very spacious and comfortable but there were issues. Firstly the door to the villa was a nightmare to lock - it’s a sliding door and the two panels didn’t seem like they fit together properly unless you physically forced them together. Even while pushing the panels together it didn’t lock easily at all - it took us a good 5-10 mins on our first try and really it shouldn’t be that hard to lock a door. Secondly, the interior needs refreshing, there were plaster marks and stains on some walls which again was very disappointing given its advertisement as a ‘luxury boutique hotel’. The private pool was great, especially being right on the beach but it had a lot of leaves and debris in it which I had to remove myself, I don’t think we saw the pool being cleaned once during our stay. There were rust marks around the edge as well and one of the lights in the pool didn’t work either so that area could also do with a refresh. Each morning I felt my throat sore and dry after leaving the air conditioning on, something I haven’t noticed in any other of our stays on our trip so I wonder when it was last cleaned/serviced. The shower was also a let down, it was lukewarm at best and wasn’t very powerful. We were also charged for a broken plate that wasn’t our fault which we felt very unfair given it wasn’t broken prior to us leaving for the day but after we returned in the evening and our room had been cleaned it was laying broken. Despite protesting, the receptionist insisted we pay and we felt we had no choice. Not the worst stay but certainly not the best and don’t believe it should be advertised as a ‘4 star luxury boutique hotel’.

Food: Excellent restaurant located at the hotel. Tasty food and very good shakes. Service 5/5 Overall I would definitely recommend this place for a beach day. We would have stayed for dinner, but unfortunately the restaurant closes after sunset.

We spent 10 days at La Perle. The location is beautiful, beach with white sand. The area is peaceful, perfect for relaxing. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is good, you can rent a motorbike to discover the island or book an island tour at the reception. (Or other activities) There are a couple other restaurants and two supermarkets in 10 min. walk.
