“I had a serious safety incident during my stay at Ubox Samui Hostel. A glass shower door shattered while I was using the bathroom, causing severe injuries to my wrist, including damage to an artery, tendon, and nerve. I required emergency medical treatment and surgery, and I spent two days in the hospital. After the incident, I noticed that other glass shower doors on the property had visible cracks, which raised further concerns about guest safety and maintenance. I have photos documenting the shattered door, my injury, staff cleaning the area, and other damaged shower doors. I contacted the hostel three separate times through WhatsApp to request reimbursement for my medical expenses, but my messages were ignored. The hostel also did not refund my stay or reimburse me for the days I missed while I was hospitalized. Instead, I was told that I was “lucky” the owner was not making me pay for the broken door. Additionally, after the incident, staff threw away my shoes because they were covered in blood, and my silver Cuban link bracelet was removed and never recovered. The hostel denied knowledge of the bracelet and did not reimburse me for the shoes. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hostel. The lack of safety, accountability, and communication after a major injury was extremely concerning. Please see the attached photos showing the shattered glass door that exploded under normal use and the condition of another shower door we found.”

“At first I liked the place, staff was really nice. But on the last morning I was the only one in the dorm and went to take a shower. I saw that the cleaning team went into my room while I brushed my teeth. When I came back 1000 Baht were stolen. Glad I didn't have more money.. I went to the staff and told them what just happened but they told my that their cleaning personell would never steal money. I read the reviews and I'm one of alot people where that happened, even in private rooms.”

“The staff were very helpful with upgrading our room as we had problems with cockroaches, they made sure to be very accommodating and checked in with us though out our stay. However upon checking out the lady at reception tried keeping our 500baht deposit and kept saying she already gave it to us”

“I was in one of the rooms closer to the beach - it was very dirty. No bin in the bedroom, only in the bathroom. Bidet hose was quite literally a pressure hose and was not sanitary nor safe. The mattresses under the sheets were mouldy and the bathroom bin was not changed in the two days I was there. Insects of all varieties in the bathroom, some work things and a gecko I've named Simon. Location was excellent, although a bit loud with people walking past to go to their rooms or the beach. My room mate regularly left the door unlocked as it's locked with a key. My locker didn't lock either. Not really social due to its distance from the common area.”

“Very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere with familiar faces. The rooms are located across the street by the beach, and you only share with three others, which makes it quiet and comfortable. As a tall person I had plenty of space in my bed. The bathroom is large and clean, with the best shower I’ve had on my trip. You can also easily book activities and transport through the hostel. For just €7–8 per night, it’s amazing value highly recommended!”
